The European Commission authorised on 19 May 2004 the placing on the market of Syngenta's Bt11 genetically modified maize. However, despite this decision the dispute brought before the World Trade Organization (WTO), by Argentina, Canada and the US against the EU's de facto moratorium on the approval of genetically modified organisms is still in place and the Dispute Panel review continues as planned.
