Designs already registered in the UK before the commencement of the Registered Designs Ordinance (ie. 27 June 1997) and designs registered on or after the commencement, but which are based on applications filed prior to the commencement date will be deemed Hong Kong registered designs. However, these registered designs will have to be renewed in Hong Kong within 6 months of the Commencement Date (ie. by 27 December 1997) or 6 months before the next UK renewal date, whichever is later. If not renewed in Hong Kong, protection in Hong Kong will lapse.
