Carey Olsen partner Graham Hall and Gavin Farrell, partner at Ozannes, have been named in the top 25 fund lawyers in the world by the Legal Media Group's Expert Guide.

"Many congratulations to both Graham and Gavin on this excellent achievement," said Peter Niven, Chief Executive of Guernsey Finance.

"Their ranking within the world's top 25 fund lawyers demonstrates their wide expertise in this complex area and the fact that this ranking is achieved after such extensive research and including testimony from their peers is a clear indication that they are very respected fund lawyers.

"It also reflects extremely well on their individual firms and Guernsey's funds industry as a whole. With such highly acclaimed professionals it is not surprising that Guernsey continues to grow its reputation for quality service and advice within an environment that is well regulated and offering high standards of corporate governance."

The Expert Guides series has focused on leading professionals worldwide since 1993 and has become the market leader. The Guide to the World's Leading Lawyers – Best of the Best 2009 is due to be published this month. It will feature profiles of the world's leading lawyers and is compiled following extensive research and consultation with international law firms, in house counsels, senior practitioners and other legal experts.

Mr Farrell is qualified as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales, a French Avocat and an Advocate of the Royal Court of Guernsey. He joined Ozannes in 2001, having worked previously at Simmons and Simmons, both in their Paris and London offices. Mr Farrell has multi-jurisdictional commercial experience and specialises in investment funds, specifically collective investment schemes and international and structured finance. He holds a number of directorships in investment companies including listed funds and general partners of private equity structures.

"At a time when financially illiterate media commentators thoughtlessly attack the offshore world, it is fitting that an award such as this shows the world why "offshore" is used: because it contains practitioners of Gavin's stature, who are at the peak of their intellectual and professional prowess," said Roger Perrot, Ozannes' senior partner.

Mr Hall is the head of Carey Olsen's Corporate and Finance Group. He is a member of the Offshore Committee of the Association of Investment Companies, the Guernsey Bar's Company Law Reform Committee and a member of the former States of Guernsey Companies Registry Steering Group. In this latter role, he was instrumental in establishing and developing much of Guernsey's company legislation.

Russell Clark, deputy managing partner at Carey Olsen, said: "The rigour with which the Expert Guides are compiled helps to demonstrate that Graham is truly worthy of this recognition. He is at the forefront of the field and is an excellent practitioner capable of finding innovative solutions for his clients. Graham also uses his experience to support others within the firm, meaning that our partners and associates also benefit from his wealth of expertise."
