UK: Clyde & Co Wins Best Community Engagement Award
Last Updated: 23 March 2015

Last night Clyde & Co's Employment and Immigration team was awarded the 'Best community engagement' award at the Managing Partners' Forum 2015 for its innovative Skype pro bono clinic.

The clinic has been running, with assistance from the firms' Community Investment team, for two years and helps the Brent Citizens Advice Bureau deal with the increasing number of employment and immigration law queries following the cuts to civil legal aid in employment and immigration law.

This is the first such clinic to operate using Skype technology, enabling lawyers across the country to advise from their office and thereby provide CAB clients with increased access to justice.  It is a cost effective model that is flexible, convenient and allows lawyers' time to be used in the most effective way possible.

Heidi Watson, Employment Partner at Clyde & Co, commented "I am absolutely delighted that this scheme has received the recognition it deserves. It is a much-needed initiative and based on its great success to date, we hope to expand the existing model to reach further members of the public, especially people living in hard-to-reach-areas."

"We are lucky to have this opportunity to volunteer and provide people with access to justice, who would otherwise struggle to receive this advice. Pro bono remains such an important part of what we can do as employment solicitors to give something back to the community."
