Australia: Norton Rose Fulbright bolsters Construction & Engineering team with high quality senior partner hire
Last Updated: 17 March 2015

Global legal practice Norton Rose Fulbright announced today that experienced Construction & Engineering lawyer Emanuel Confos has returned as a partner in the Sydney office.

Mr Confos was most recently the head of Construction at law firm Gilbert+Tobin. Among the high points of his career was his advice to Brookfield Multiplex in a 2014 High Court decision, which was both a unanimous victory and a landmark decision for the construction industry.

Mr Confos regularly advises on all aspects of construction law. He has prepared and negotiated complex construction contracts for large scale commercial and residential projects, as well as in the hospitality and mining industries and in the construction of technology buildings, such as data centre facilities. He has extensive experience acting for clients in large-scale complex construction litigation.

Commentary by a respondent to the influential Chambers Asia-Pacific directory listings was that Mr Confos is "an excellent lawyer, good value and more responsive to demands than any other lawyer I use".

Norton Rose Fulbright Managing Partner in Australia, Wayne Spanner, said it was pleasing to see Mr Confos return to our business.

"Our Construction & Engineering practice has gone from strength to strength, and we see the addition of someone in Sydney with Emanuel's talent, drive and experience as bringing enormous benefit to our clients and our broader team," Mr Spanner said.

Mr Confos said working for a premier global legal practice would improve the offering he was already providing to valued domestic and international clients.

"Norton Rose Fulbright is an established player in Construction & Engineering, with enviable depth and recognition in the market," he said. "Being part of this team, and having access to the spread of resources available to it via its expansive global footprint, will allow me to service clients in a way that I have not previously been able to do."

Mr Confos has achieved the following industry recognition:

  • Chambers Asia-Pacific – recognised for Construction 2012-2015;
  • Legal 500 Asia-Pacific – recognised for Construction 2013-2015;
  • Best Lawyers 2014

Norton Rose Fulbright in Australia has added 13 new partners since January 2014, including 10 lateral appointments. The other lateral partners are Andrea Rezos, Keira Brennan, Ray Giblett, Helene Lee, Adrienne Parker, Hazel Brasington, Dale Rayner, John Elliott and Global Head of our Energy practice Simon Currie (from Norton Rose Fulbright in London).
