Canada: The Hon. David C. Dingwall, P.C., Q.C., IC.D appointed as Arbitrator to the Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission

TORONTO, March 2015 — The Hon. David C. Dingwall, P.C., Q.C., IC.D, counsel at Affleck Greene McMurtry LLP, has been appointed as Arbitrator to the Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (Shanghai International Arbitration Centre, SHIAC). SHIAC's mission is to promote an international standard for comprehensive arbitration services.

Mr. Dingwall serves as a Board Member of the Canada/China Business Council and is Co-Director of The Canada-China Institute for Business & Development (CCIBD), Ted Rogers School of Management (TRSM) at Ryerson University. He was appointed to the Panel of International Commercial Arbitrators by the ICC National Committee of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, and is a Founding Member of the Toronto Arbitrators' Society. In addition, Mr. Dingwall is a Board Member of the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Bar Association, and The Advocates' Society.

SHIAC is the world's largest arbitration centre, earning international respect for efficient, independent and impartial professional services, with awards being recognized and enforced in over 40 countries and regions. Arbitration services include consulting on arbitral procedures, case filings and hearings. Dispute resolution cases encompass trade, investment, and transfer of technology, M&A, finance, securities, insurance, real estate, construction, logistics, intellectual property, franchising, energy, environmental interests, information technology and other commercial matters. SHIAC's panel of experts is comprised of 696 arbitrators from 54 countries and regions. Eight Canadians, including Mr. Dingwall, are on the roster panel.

In his expansive career, Mr. Dingwall has acted as senior policy advisor, national public figure, lawyer, corporate CEO, Corporate Director, and distinguished public speaker. He has been dealing with business and trade matters in China since 1994. Offering a unique and constructive viewpoint on the issues of the modern enterprise, Mr. Dingwall's practice consists of corporate governance, public policy, corporate/commercial, and alternate dispute resolution, including negotiation, mediation, domestic and international arbitration.
