Australia: John Elliott joins Norton Rose Fulbright
Last Updated: 6 February 2015

Global legal practice Norton Rose Fulbright announced today that experienced Mergers and Acquisitions lawyer John Elliott has joined as a partner in Australia.

Mr Elliott has most recently been the senior M&A partner at Clayton Utz, based in Sydney. He has over 25 years of experience in complex corporate transactions, acting in bid and defence roles for public listed company takeovers, majority shareholder sell-downs and schemes of arrangement.

He has worked across industries, advising domestic and international companies, but has a particular focus on the energy and resources and financial services sectors.

Wayne Spanner, Managing Partner in Australia of Norton Rose Fulbright, said Mr Elliott will make an outstanding addition to our cross-border regulated and unregulated M&A and equity capital markets offering.

"We are thrilled that someone of John's seniority and pedigree in the M&A space has agreed to join our business," Mr Spanner said. "His years of experience leading an M&A and equity capital markets practice, together with an industry focus that dovetails with our global sector approach, will make for a strong addition to our team."

Mr Elliott said he was looking forward to joining a global legal practice with an innovative industry focus and rising M&A profile strengthened by its cross-border platform.

"I have been highly impressed by the growth and recognition Norton Rose Fulbright has been able to achieve in recent years," he said. "The opportunity to be part of a genuinely global business, with the depth of experience and resources that brings, was hugely attractive to me. It is also an offering that clients are increasingly seeking for both domestic and international work."

Mr Elliott has achieved considerable industry recognition, including:

  • Chambers Global (2011-2014)
  • IFLR1000 (2011-2014)
  • The International Who's Who of Mergers & Acquisitions Lawyers (2012-2014)
  • The International Who's Who of Corporate Governance Lawyers (2013-2014)
  • Best Lawyers, for M&A and corporate/governance (2010-2014)

The addition of Mr Elliott marks ten new partners for Norton Rose Fulbright in Australia in the past year, including seven lateral appointments. The other lateral partners are Keira Brennan, Ray Giblett, Helene Lee, Adrienne Parker, Hazel Brasington and Dale Rayner.
