Australia: New legal resourcing company launched by Corrs
Last Updated: 9 December 2014

Corrs Chambers Westgarth has launched a new legal resourcing business named Orbit.

Corrs Partner and Practice Group Leader of Employment, Workplace Relations and Safety at Corrs, John Tuck, said Orbit brings together a team of experienced lawyers who will fulfill the temporary in-house legal demands of our clients and other businesses.

"Orbit was created in response to clients' changing requirements and to help the growing numbers of lawyers interested in a different way of working."

Mr Tuck said "Increasingly, our clients want access to high calibre lawyers who can work with their teams on a flexible basis. Orbit lawyers will have the capacity to resource critical and day to day projects and provide flexibility to businesses in managing their legal teams and their costs."

"We know more lawyers want to balance their personal and career goals and many are looking for new ways of working. They want to work at the top of their field but they also want more opportunity to pursue other interests," he said.

Corrs' Chief Operating Officer Jon Kenton noted the Orbit model is well established in the US and European markets, but Corrs is the first law firm to offer this model in Australia. "We are working hard to innovate to meet more of our clients' needs, while also pioneering new career options for lawyers".

"Orbit was a natural next step for Corrs," he said.

Mr Tuck acknowledged "Corrs is focused on understanding the demands on our clients and we are ideally placed to identify the skills and requirements our clients are looking for because we are already working in with them."

Orbit will commence delivering services to clients and other businesses in early 2015. Mr Kenton said "Orbit's services will add to, and complement, what Corrs already offers. Right now, our initial focus for Orbit is to build a team of talented lawyers. This won't take the focus away from our core business but rather add to it."
