Australia: Norton Rose Fulbright honoured at The Asian Lawyer's Emerging Markets Awards
Last Updated: 3 December 2014

Global legal practice Norton Rose Fulbright has picked up two wins at the inaugural Asian Lawyer Emerging Markets Awards.

Gervais Green, head of Norton Rose Fulbright's Asia Pacific shipping, offshore oil and gas and finance practice was named "Finance Lawyer of the Year", and Ooredoo Group's landmark US$15 billion investment in Myanmar, won "TMT Deal of the Year". Norton Rose Fulbright was also shortlisted in six other categories.

The Emerging Markets Awards were presented at a gala dinner at the Fullerton hotel in Singapore. The awards recognise the best lawyers and transactions in the emerging markets of Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and India.

The Asian Lawyer stated in their write-up:

Finance Lawyer of the Year: "Gervais Green of Norton Rose Fulbright in Singapore had a terrific year representing consortiums of banks that lent to support a tender rig business and two regasification units. Green led a Norton Rose Fulbright team that advised a lending syndicate led by Standard Chartered Bank on the $1.85 billion bridge financing and credit facility for SapuraKencana's $2.9 billion purchase of Seadrill Ltd.'s tender rig business."

TMT Deal of the Year: "After a half century of military rule, Myanmar pushed through a rush of political and economic reforms that opened the country to massive flows of investment...To bring modern telecommunications infrastructure to Myanmar was one such opportunity, and the size and scope of this $15 billion matter drive the point home."

Jeff Smith, Norton Rose Fulbright's head of South East Asia, commented:

"To be recognised for these awards is a significant endorsement of the work we have undertaken in the emerging markets over the last year. The deals recognised in the awards demonstrate our cross-border capabilities across our Australia, Bangkok, Jakarta and Singapore offices."
