Australia: Clayton Utz awarded inaugural WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Quality citation
Last Updated: 14 November 2014

12 November 2014: Clayton Utz has today been named on the Workplace Gender Equality Agency's (WGEA) inaugural list of Employer of Choice for Gender Equality (EOCGE) citation holders.

Clayton Utz is one of only 76 organisations to be awarded the citation. It recognises market-leading employers that are demonstrating an active commitment to removing any structural and cultural barriers to equal opportunity for women in their workplaces.

Clayton Utz Chief Executive Partner (CEP) Rob Cutler said he was proud of the firm's progress to date on gender equality and would continue to drive change through targeted initiatives.

"We recognise that having a diverse and inclusive workplace makes good business sense. We also recognise that bringing about real change means taking direct action. That's why our Diversity Council, which I chair, has committed to a target of 35 per cent of women in the partnership by 2025. It is also why I appointed Kate Jordan as Deputy CEP - People and Development in our new senior leadership team with effect from 1 July, and partners Nikki Robinson, Fran Rush, Karen Trainor, Karen O'Flynn and Kirsten Webb as among 14 national practice group leaders," said Rob.

"Other initiatives we are investing in include a formal, merit-based talent identification program for high-performing lawyers with partnership potential, a merit-based approach to employee development, reward and recognition and promotion, and unconscious bias training, for example.

"In other areas such as paid parental leave, flexible and remote working, career and networking opportunities through our national Momentum initiative, and gender pay equity, we are making good progress. There is more we can do and there are no quick-fix solutions. I am committed to maintaining the momentum and to embedding gender diversity and equality within our firm culture over the long term."
