Last Updated: 31 October 2014

Global legal practice Norton Rose Fulbright announced today that it has appointed highly experienced banking and finance lawyer Dale Rayner as a partner in Australia.

Mr Rayner has worked in Australia, Hong Kong and London in top-tier private practice firms, as well as senior in-house roles in leading global banks. His current practice includes aviation finance, asset finance, structured finance, debt capital markets, and general banking and finance. He is also one of Australia's best legal practitioners in derivatives.

Mr Rayner, most recently at Clifford Chance in Sydney, began his career at Minter Ellison in Brisbane. He then moved to Mallesons Stephen Jaques in Sydney (now King & Wood Mallesons), Allen & Overy (Hong Kong), Société Générale (Hong Kong and London) and HSBC (Hong Kong) before returning to Australia. He is admitted to practice in Hong Kong and Australia.

Wayne Spanner, Managing Partner in Australia of Norton Rose Fulbright, said Mr Rayner "is an outstanding lawyer with a unique combination of top-tier banking practice experience and an international financing pedigree".

"His ability to manage large complex projects and cross border teams makes him an ideal fit for us, and his local pedigree will be tremendously valuable in building our Australian and regional practice."

Mr Rayner said he was looking forward to joining a global legal practice with key strengths in banking and finance. His official start date is November 3 and he will be based in the Brisbane office.

"Norton Rose Fulbright has a market-leading reputation in many areas, particularly in the transport and financial institutions sectors," he said. "I very much look forward to joining its dynamic and growing banking and finance team in Australia."

His appointment marks the fifth new lateral banking partner appointment at Norton Rose Fulbright in Australia in two years. The others were Nuncio D'Angelo, Chris Redden, Jo Crew and Jake Howard.
