Australia: Norton Rose Fulbright named in top 10 of Who's Who Legal Pro Bono Survey 2014
Last Updated: 29 October 2014

Global legal practice Norton Rose Fulbright has been recognised as one of the top 10 leading law firms for pro bono in the Who's Who Legal Pro Bono Survey 2014.

The annual global survey evaluates firms based on a number of factors including percentage of total billed hours dedicated to pro bono, steps taken to encourage pro bono activity and percentage of participation throughout all levels of the firm.

Norton Rose Fulbright has a well-established global pro bono and community program, with participation encouraged across all levels of the practice. This includes volunteer programmes with community legal centres all over the world. For example, trainees in Europe, Middle East and Asia offices regularly participate in programmes with local law centres, providing weekly clinics on issues such as employment, private housing and consumer matters.

In the last year, the practice has advised on a number of high profile pro bono matters including the setting of a nationwide child transgender precedent in the US and advising Aspire Food in Canada, a social enterprise aimed at addressing global food security.

Peter Martyr, global chief executive, Norton Rose Fulbright, commented:

"Our ranking within this survey affirms our commitment to giving back to the communities in which we live and work globally. Pro bono work is a fundamental part of our culture, benefitting not only the people we help but also our people at Norton Rose Fulbright, by encouraging inclusivity and enabling people to further develop their skills."

Norton Rose Fulbright has been awarded a number of accolades for pro bono and volunteering work including the corporate volunteering award at the Team London Awards 2014, the 2014 LawWorks pro bono award for best contribution by a law firm and the American Bar Association's Pro Bono Publico Award 2014 for outstanding contributions to volunteer legal services. The practice was also one of 20 firms to be named "pro bono firm of the year" by Law360.
