UK: Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP Advise On The Formation Of The New Biosciences Federation

The Corporate and Intellectual Property Groups at Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP have advised on the formation of the Biosciences Federation, a new umbrella organisation which has been set up to support biologists in the UK.

A number of leading organisations, covering a wide range of subjects including biology, physiology, neuroscience, biochemistry, and microbiology, have come together to form the new umbrella organisation with Professor Colin Blakemore FRS as president.

The new Council of the Biosciences Federation will have its first official meeting on the 18th February and will be formally launched later this year.

The Federation has a number of objectives including promoting communication within the community of Bioscientists and assisting with the formulation of public policy.

Intellectual Property partner Ian Wood and corporate assistant Jonathan Crawford led the team from Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP who advised on the formation of the Biosciences Federation. The Biosciences Federation is an umbrella organization with the following aims:

  • To promote liaison and dialogue within the community of Bioscientists on common issues that relate to research and teaching, encouraging interactions within the diverse areas of biology and other disciplines.
  • To provide opinion and information to assist the formulation of public policy.
  • To promote wide and open debate about the practical and ethical issues surrounding developments and their applications.
  • To engage the wider public in order to increase mutual understanding of the role of the Biosciences and their application in society.
  • To organize and conduct meetings, or assist in so doing, for the purpose of providing communications, printed and oral, that relate to the Biosciences, and to publish reports, journals or other publications.
