Last Updated: 22 September 2014

On 18th September 2014 Zyda Law appeared, on behalf of Monkstone Cruising and Sailing Club and the Neath Port Authority, at an Issue Specific Hearing for the examination of the proposed Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon ('the proposed project').

The proposed project which is considered by the developer to be a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project will, if approved, result in a significant volume of Swansea Bay being impounded to accommodate the generation of electricity from tidal energy. The application was made by the developers under the Planning Act 2008 and will be decided by the Secretary of State. The proposal is being examined by a panel of five inspectors who will make a recommendation to the Secretary of State following the close of the examination.

The Issue Specific Hearing examined, amongst other matters, the impacts of the proposed project on navigation. Zyda Law assisted their clients in making representations to the examining authority on the impact the proposed project will have on the safe navigation of the Neath channel for a range of vessels under a variety of weather and tidal conditions.
