Toronto (September 15, 2014) — Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) announced that Clifford Hart has joined the firm's Labour and Employment Group as a partner. A senior practitioner, Mr. Hart brings more than 20 years of labour relations and employment law experience to BLG.

"I am pleased that Clifford Hart has chosen to join BLG as a partner in our Labour and Employment Group," said Cynthia Clarke, partner and national group head, Specialized Law Group. "His legal expertise has been recognized by his peers and will add to the strength of our labour relations team."

He appears regularly as employer counsel in grievance and interest arbitrations, and before administrative tribunals including the Ontario Labour Relations Board, the Canada Industrial Relations Board and the Human Rights Tribunal. Mr. Hart has broad experience in the automotive, transportation, municipal, hospitality and retail sectors, among others. Mr. Hart also acts as counsel to National Hockey League clubs in salary arbitration disputes with their players.

"We have made significant strategic moves to build Canada's best labour and employment team and adding Clifford is another important, timely step, particularly for our unionized clients," said Matthew Certosimo, partner and national leader, Labour and Employment Law, BLG. "His wealth of experience in a myriad of industries will add to the team's depth and complements our labour and employment practice perfectly."

The addition of Mr. Hart comes after the team added 13 other labour and employment practitioners across the country. BLG is focused on building the best labour and employment group to provide clients across the country with access to specialists in both areas of practice. Mr. Hart adds to the expertise on the labour relations side.

"I look forward to working with my new colleagues at BLG and to providing my clients with access to the national pool of legal experts at BLG," stated Clifford Hart.

A graduate of the University of Alberta, Mr. Hart obtained his LL.B. in 1987, after he graduated from McGill University in 1984 with a B.A. in Industrial Relations. He was called to the Alberta bar in 1988 and the Ontario bar in 1991.  Mr. Hart is ranked in the Best Lawyers in Canada – Labour and Employment Law in 2013, 2014 and 2015. He regularly lectures to clients and other groups on topical labour relations issues and is a co-author of the Canadian Employment Law Fact Book.
