Canada: Borden Ladner Gervais Adds To Securities And Capital Markets Group

Toronto (September 4, 2014) — Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) is pleased to welcome Michael Burns to the firm's Securities, Capital Markets and Public Companies Group. Mr. Burns will focus on securities law, hedge funds and structured products with additional expertise in corporate finance.

Mr. Burns' securities work involves a wide variety of corporate finance transactions which include private placements, rights offerings, and initial public offerings, acting on behalf of both issuers and underwriters/agents. He provides ongoing advice to public and private investment funds as well as public and private corporate clients in the fields which include resource issuers, REITS, media and financial services concerning corporate finance, continuous disclosure obligations, shareholder communications, proxy contests, executive compensation, corporate governance, preparations for annual and special meetings and general corporate matters.

Mr. Burns currently serves as chair of the Canadian chapter of the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA).

A graduate of Dalhousie University, Bachelor of Commerce (Cum Laude), 1987 and Bachelor of Law, 1990, Michael was called to the Ontario Bar in 1992. In 1996, he was a staff member of The Toronto Stock Exchange's Committee on corporate governance practices in Canada (the "Dey Committee") which published the seminal report entitled "Where Were the Directors?"
