Last Updated: 29 August 2014

Managing Director of Twitter Australia, Karen Stocks, addressed members of the Sydney business community on the power of social media at a Crescent Institute event held at Corrs Chambers Westgarth's 8 Chifley office on Tuesday evening.

Karen discussed in depth the role Twitter has played in interconnecting the globe like never before and the necessary alterations in media strategy, business strategy and personal communication social media has inspired.

Twitter has played a key role in the evolution of social media. It is one of the most powerful and pervasive media platforms, with news breaking minute by minute through more than 500 million tweets per day to more than 255 million active monthly users.

Corrs co-hosted the event with The Crescent Institute which was attended by more than 100 business professionals. Corrs' Financial Services Industry Division Chair and partner Michael Chaaya, Intellectual Property partners Eugenia Kolivos and Odette Gourley, and senior associate Isaac Lin represented the firm.

The Crescent Institute has an enduring relationship with Corrs. The firm has co-hosted several prior events and high-profile speakers over the last three years including high profile politicians and business leaders such as Telstra CEO David Thodey, Australia Post Managing Director and CEO, Ahmed Fahour, and Visa CEO Vipin Kalra.

Corrs partner Michael Chaaya said he was delighted to host the most recent event with The Crescent Institute and looks forward to using Twitter as one part of the firm's response to the digital disruption in professional services.
