Australia: Corrs partner delivers world premiere performance at the con
Last Updated: 28 August 2014

Corrs Chambers Westgarth partner Thomas Jones delivered an exclusive performance at the Conservatorium of Music on Thursday 21 August.

Thomas, also a highly accomplished violinist, made the world premiere performance of a work by the Sydney-based composer Moya Henderson with his wife, flautist Laura Chislett Jones. The piece, Remembering, reflects on the Anzac experience. With Sydney pianist David Miller he also premiered Love Drunk by acclaimed Iranian composer Reza Vali who teaches at Carnegie Mellon University in the USA. Vali is known as the "Iranian Bartok" because he collects folk songs.

Reza Vali was also a guest at the concert.

Thomas, who has played professionally for more than 25 years said, "It was a magical night with two world-premiere performances in front of the composers."

ABOUT THOMAS' MUSIC CAREER

Thomas Jones studied at the Sydney Conservatorium under Christopher Kimber. During this time Thomas received a Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Award and became a student of the late Josef Gingold at Indiana University. Gingold was once described by The Smithsonian magazine as 'the best living teacher of violin technique and repertoire in the world today.'

Thomas has been a violinist with the Atlanta Chamber Players, the leading ensemble in the Southeast and toured extensively throughout the United States. He has also appeared as guest artist with the Borodin Trio and performed as a soloist with various Australian and American orchestras including the Dekalb Symphony, the Tampa Bay Chamber Orchestra, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Queensland Pops Orchestra.
