Australia: Clayton Utz recruits leading public sector lawyer, Simon Bailey, as a consultant
Last Updated: 22 August 2014

Melbourne, 19 August 2014: Clayton Utz has appointed Simon Bailey as a consultant in Melbourne, providing our government and private sector clients with access to one of Australia's most experienced practitioners in public sector law. Simon joins Clayton Utz from DLA Piper, where he spent 14 years as a partner.

With a career spanning both private practice and the public sector, Simon advises a broad range of clients including Commonwealth, State and Local government agencies, as well as commercial and not-for-profit businesses, on a range of public law related matters. His broad-ranging practice covers administrative law and decision-making, regulation, development and interpretation of legislation, public sector governance and procurement, FOI and privacy. He has a particular focus on the government, transport, health and information sectors.

Simon said he was attracted to Clayton Utz's commitment to the government sector and our strong reputation, particularly in the public law space. "I am looking forward to bringing my specialist knowledge and experience in public law to help our Clayton Utz teams nationally deliver an even better service to clients in this area," he said.

Clayton Utz partner Kym Fraser said Simon's experience would further enhance our strong credentials in servicing clients with public law needs, particularly in the dynamic health and transport sectors.

Prior to joining his previous firm in 1997, Simon held legal and policy positions in the public sector, including the Victorian Attorney-General's Department and Department of Premier and Cabinet, and what is now the National Transport Commission.
