UK: Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP Advises Charterhouse in Landmark £325 Million Property Disposal
Last Updated: 23 January 2003
The Real Estate Group at Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP has advised The Charterhouse Shopping Centre Funds I & II and their operator HSBC Property Fund Management on a £325 million sale to property investment boutique, CIT.

The portfolio was one of the largest to come onto the UK market and includes 11 town shopping centres in England and Wales. The main retailers are Boots, Marks & Spencer, WH Smith, Next, Dixons and Tesco.

This deal is yet another example of the top level deals that the Real Estate Group continue to complete at Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP and follows soon after the group advised Key Property Investments in a £112 million acquisition and leaseback of a portfolio of properties from ALSTOM in December 2002.

Head of Real Estate, Jeremy Clay was chosen to advise Charterhouse and oversee the running of the deal as a result of his experience in overseeing large deals which involved a number of advisers. At Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw, he led a team of over 12 lawyers who advised Charterhouse on a full comprehensive range of legal issues.

Jeremy led a team of lawyers from other firms including Richard Stones at Lovells who advised on partnership and tax issues and Martin Needham at Olswang.

CIT was advised by a team led by Chris de Pury at Herbert Smith.
