Two Jones Day Lawyers Recognized As "Rising Stars Of The Private Bar" By The American Lawyer Magazine

WASHINGTON, DC - Two Jones Day partners -- Washington, DC Partner Glen D. Nager and Columbus Partner Jeffrey S. Sutton -- have been included on The American Lawyer's "45 Under 45" list in the current issue. "This year's list represents our magazine's view of the next generation of legal superstars," said Aric Press, editor-in-chief of The American Lawyer. "Drawn from 18 different cities around the world, these individuals set the standard for excellence in the industry. We expect them to be leaders in the field for many years to come."

The 2003 list is the first to be compiled by the publication since 1995. The current group was chosen following a rigorous two-month selection process by a panel of six editors and senior reporters. The panel reviewed more than 600 names, researched their backgrounds and scored each candidate on a variety of criteria for excellence, including their deal and/or trial track records. Practice area and geographic diversity were also taken into consideration, and no individual firm was permitted to have more than two lawyers on the final list. Jones Day was one of only five firms with multiple listings. With respect to such doubling, Editor-in-Chief Press said that "some candidates were so outstanding that we didn't want to publish without them."

Glen Nager chairs Jones Day's Issues and Appeals Practice from the firm's Washington, DC Office. Although he handles cases of all types, and has argued and won cases in the United States Supreme Court, Nager's specialty is employment law, with particular emphasis on age discrimination, civil rights, and employee benefits. The American Lawyer had this to say about Nager: "By the age of 10, [he] knew that he wanted to be a lawyer...Nager raced through college in three years, started Stanford Law School at 21, and, at 23, became the youngest-ever president of the Stanford Law Review. He hasn't slowed down since."

Jeffrey Sutton is a partner in Jones Day's Columbus Office specializing in commercial, constitutional, and appellate litigation. He has argued 12 cases before the United States Supreme Court over the past four years, winning nine of them; one is pending. "[He's] one of the best appellate advocates I've ever seen," said R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company Executive Vice President and General Counsel Charles Blixt in the publication's review of Jeffrey Sutton's accomplishments. "He has an ability to discuss complex topics in a conversational, easy-to-understand way." An honors graduate of Williams College and first in his class at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, Sutton was with Jones Day from 1992 to 1995, when he was appointed State Solicitor in the Ohio Attorney General's Office. He rejoined the firm in 1998. Sutton is also an adjunct professor at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, and is currently a nominee for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

"We are both flattered and humbled to be one of only a handful of law firms with multiple lawyers on this prestigious list," said Jones Day Managing Partner Stephen Brogan. "Clearly, Glen's and Jeff's accomplishments speak for themselves, and are reflective of the legal acumen and client service demonstrated on a daily basis by hundreds of their Jones Day colleagues throughout the world."

The American Lawyer is the industry's leading legal monthly magazine; it is published by American Lawyer Media, Inc., the nation's leading legal journalism and information company. In its January 2002 issue, The American Lawyer named Jones Day "Litigation Department of the Year" (8,444KB, allow time for link to load) in its first-ever survey of leading litigation departments.

Jones Day is an international law firm with 25 locations in centers of business and finance throughout the world. With more than 1,800 lawyers, it ranks among the world's largest law firms.A
