United States: Marie Yeates Honored As Outstanding Woman Leader

(Houston, TX) November 22, 2002 –Texas Executive Women honored Vinson & Elkins Partner Marie Yeates for her success in business and involvement in the community at the Women on the Move Luncheon in Houston on November 21, 2002. The honor recognizes the accomplishments of ten Houston-area women leaders in their professional and community activities.

"The Women on the Move Luncheon is one of the greatest honors for Houston-area businesswomen," says Vinson & Elkins Managing Partner, Joe Dilg. "I’ve been enriched and I know many lawyers have been by Marie’s ability to balance a successful career and family life, as well as contribute extensively in leadership positions to the firm, and the community."

Yeates has been head of the Vinson & Elkins’ appellate section since 1991, a group that now boasts over two dozen lawyers. She was named one of America’s Top 50 Litigators in The National Law Journal in 2001. Yeates is one of 15 lawyers voted by the Vinson & Elkins partners to serve on the Management Committee to identify and evaluate key strategic goals for one of the largest international law firms with over 870 lawyers. She also spearheads the Women’s Initiative for Vinson & Elkins to improve the recruitment and retention of women attorneys and increase the representation of women in leadership positions at the firm and serves as an example.

Last year Yeates served as the chair for the United Way of the Texas Gulf Coast Women’s Initiative and she helped raise more than $592,000.
