Australia: [Invitation] Significant Investment Visa (SIV) Program - Is it a Golden Ticket Opportunity?
Last Updated: 23 July 2014

The Federal Government's Significant Investment Visa (SIV) program launched in 2012 is now building momentum.

The SIV program is open to wealthy foreign individuals who invest a minimum of A$5 million for a minimum of four years in "complying investments", including government bonds, Australian proprietary companies or ASIC-regulated managed funds.

Approximately 255 visas worth $1.28 billion have been granted to date and there are over 900 pending visa applications with a combined investment value of $4.6 billion. The vast majority of applicants are Chinese nationals.

Australian fund managers and aligned financial service providers have a real opportunity to tap into the program's expected capital inflows by designing and offering complying investments and related services to potential SIV applicants.

Madgwicks Lawyers and the Victorian Department of State Development, Business and Innovation (DSDBI) will update on the SIV opportunity and provide practical information about how the program works.
