United States: Investment Management Group Ranked In The Legal 500

Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP's 35-year track record in the registered fund space has allowed it to attract an enviable list of clients which includes large institutional investors such as Northern Funds, Credit Suisse and Scotiabank. The convergence of registered and hedge funds has seen the firm advise several mutual fund clients in using alternative strategies and forming alternative funds for clients including AQR Funds. The team also successfully obtained two exemptive orders for FlexShare Trust, and submitted an application Partners Group for a multi-class exemption for a closed-end fund. Its enforcement expertise was strengthened in 2013 with the recruitment of Mary Hansen from her previous role as assistant director of the SEC's enforcement division. Mike Malloy and Diana McCarthy led teams advising on the formation of four variable net asset value money market products for Northern Funds, and an emerging markets debt fund for Northern Multi-Manager Funds. On the ETF front, McCarthy and Mark Costley advised Northern Trust on its launch of several ETFs aimed at private wealth investors, including an active fund which required SEC approval to list, and two international index-based funds. Joshua Deringer, who has significant alternative mutual fund expertise, heads the team.
