Isle of Man: DQ Funding For Douglas Choral Union Bursary
Last Updated: 3 July 2014

Leading Isle of Man law firm Dougherty Quinn ("DQ") is pleased to announce that in addition to its continued commitment as the principal sponsor of the Douglas Choral Union ("DCU"), it has also agreed to assist DCU in its bursary scheme for those talented young performers who want to study musical theatre.

DQ has been supporting the DCU as its main sponsor for five years, a period of time which has seen such highlight shows as Miss Saigon, Beauty and the Beast and most recently Tommy. As part of its recently agreed sponsorship commitment for the next three years, DQ has also agreed to assist financially with the recently implemented DCU bursary scheme over the same period of time.

The scheme has already been in place for two years and has provided financial assistance to four talented Isle of Man performers who have all gone away to prestigious stage schools in the UK to study musical theatre.

The bursary is available for anyone up to the age of 25. As part of the scheme, bursary recipients agree to participate in school visits and workshops with a view to passing down their newly acquired skills, experience and knowledge. All recipients so far have done either classes or workshops at local Island schools or which have been made available to anyone on Island.

Tony Jones, Chairman of the DCU commented:

"The DCU has received such fantastic support from the Isle of Man public over the last few years that we find ourselves in a position where we can help directly to improve the standard of theatre and arts on the island. By helping students to complete studies, we hope their knowledge and skills will filter back to the Island and keep Manx theatre at the highest standard, the standard the Manx public expect today.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our title sponsors, Dougherty Quinn Advocates, without whom we wouldn't be able to provide such exciting opportunities for the Island's talented individuals.
