What Our Group Has Been Up To

  1. Peter Henein, Stefanie Holland, Christopher Horkins and Glenn Zakaib attended the DRI Product Liability Conference, in Phoenix, Arizona on April 7-11, 2014.
  2. Erin Craddock volunteered as part of the Ontario Bar Association's law day and taught approximately 50 elementary school students about the Charter of Rights on May 9, 2014.
  3. Glenn Zakaib attended the DRI International Seminar: Hot Topics in International Dispute Resolution in Amsterdam on May 22 and 23, 2014.
  4. Peter Henein and Glenn Zakaib attended the DRI Products Liability Committee fly-in meeting in Chicago on May 30, 2014.
  5. Cassels Brock and Blackwell LLP hosted a meeting of DRI Leaders in Canada on June 2, 2014.
  6. Glenn Zakaib attended the DRI Board of Directors meeting in Jackson Hole, Wyoming from June 4 – 8, 2014.
  7. Glenn Zakaib attended and spoke at the AIJA Conference on Arbitration and Dawn Raids being held in Vienna from June 12 – 14, 2014.

What Our Group Is Up To

  1. Peter Henein, as Chair of the International Specialized Litigation Group of the Products Liability Committee, has begun preparation for the DRI annual meeting in October 2014.
  2. Emily Larose, Glenn Zakaib and Peter Henein have co-authored for publication a summary of product liability law in Canada, to be published in Getting the Deal Through - Product Liability 2014 – Canada in June 2014.
  3. Stefanie Holland has authored for publication a case comment regarding the limited availability of economic loss causes of action against manufacturers in product liability law in Ontario, to be published in the DRI International Newsletter – July 2014.
  4. Peter Henein, as a member of The Advocates' Society's Task Force on Communications with Testifying Experts assisted with the development of a recent publication of a Position Paper and accompanying Principles.
  5. Christopher Horkins is working on an Advocates' Society Task Force of Court Technology with the Young Advocates' Standing Committee, the board of the Advocates' Society and Justice D.M. Brown of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.
  6. Jeremy Martin is developing a research article on alternative fee arrangement innovations in complex litigation files, and is expecting the publication of the Annual Survey of Civil Procedure in the Ontario Civil Practice, which he co-authored with Derek McKay and Peter Henein, in the coming months.
