Last Updated: 20 June 2014

We are excited to inform you that Nishith Desai Associates has received the award for ‎Most Innovative Indian Law Firm by Financial Times in its 2014 study of Innovative Lawyers across Asia-Pacific including Australia (APAC). We have also been ranked as the second most innovative firm amongst APAC headquartered law firms.

Thank you for your support and encouragement.

The Financial Times has given us the highest score in India for innovation in Corporate Strategy for: "A different approach to management, training and sharing knowledge to build a different model of law firm in India." We are also recognized as a top 3 'standout' firm for Corporate Strategy in the APAC region. We have also received the top aggregate score in India for Corporate & Commercial and second in Finance & Capital Markets, and the firm is 'highly recommended' for innovation in these areas.

We are privileged that our Founder and Managing Partner, Nishith Desai is the only Indian lawyer to be shortlisted for the award of most Innovative Individual Lawyer in the Asia-Pacific region. The survey by Financial Times recognizes Mr. Desai's "constructive contrarian" approach which is "radically different from that of most international premium law firms." It further states that: "The model was ahead of its time, particularly in Mr Desai's decision to focus on specific areas such as funds and technology. Nearly 25 years later, his model has both profitability and quality ratings in legal rankings...Before deciding on his firm's model, which combines research, academics and thought leadership, he spent four years studying professional service firms..."We don't believe in 'headcount', we believe in 'brain count'," he says... His latest step has been to let clients pay him on their "happiness" quotient."

The awards were announced by Financial Times on Wednesday, June 11 at a grand ceremony in Hong Kong. It was attended by leading legal professionals, general counsel of major corporations and who's who from the legal industry.

The Innovative Lawyers survey by Financial Times in association with RSG Consulting is the first of its kind for the APAC region. The survey ranks 61 of the most prestigious law firms in the region including APAC headquartered law firms as well as other international law firms present in APAC. The study is based on rigorous analysis, interviews with key industry players and a critical review of originality, rationale and impact of each innovation. The ranking of Most Innovative Law Firm consolidates the scores for Corporate Strategy, Corporate & Commercial and Finance & Capital Markets.

It is our vision is to be trusted advisors to our clients, help them achieve their BIG vision, rescue them from crisis and while doing so, experience the joy of changing the world around us- for the better.
