Isle of Man: DQ Aviation Team At EBACE 2014
Last Updated: 23 May 2014

Leading Isle of Man law firm Dougherty Quinn ("DQ") is once again represented at the Annual European Business Aviation Convention ("EBACE") in Geneva this week (20-22 May 2014). Tom Maher, managing director of DQ and Stephen Dougherty , senior associate both members of DQ's specialist aviation team are in attendance to meet existing aviation clients and to promote the Isle of Man generally.

EBACE continues to be the single-most important European event on the industry's calendar, and the best opportunity for buyers and sellers to connect in Europe.

Highlights of this year's event include:-

  • Dassault launched the Falcon 8X with more range (6,450 nm) and cabin space than any other Falcon jet. Deliveries are expected to begin in the second half of 2016.
  • Gulfstream launched the G650ER, which can fly 6,400 nm at a top speed of Mach 0.90. Deliveries will begin in Q1 2015.
  • Piaggio launched the Avanti Evolution, the world's fastest twin turboprop.
  • DAHER-SOCATA revealed 47 orders for the TBM 900 for 2014.
  • Honda Aircraft announced that nine HondaJets are on the company's production line in North Carolina. Six are expected to deliver when the aircraft achieves type certification in Q1 2015.
  • Aerion unveiled a new tri-engine design for its supersonic business jet

The Isle of Man Aircraft Registry continues to grow and to be held in great esteem by those in the industry. It is the world's leading and largest offshore bizjet register and the 6th largest overall in the world (after the US, Brazil, Mexico, Canada and Germany). Our nearest offshore competitor is Bermuda which lies in 18th place. Whilst other registers may pose some competition to the Isle of Man (including the new registries in the Channel Islands), many of those attending EBACE are quick to compliment and comment on the Isle of Man registry's flexibility and commercial approach, advantages which will certainly hold it in good stead as it continues to grow in the future.

DQ's specialist aviation team advises many of the world's leading aircraft lenders, managers, fiduciaries and owners on using the Isle of Man register and related legal transactions. We also advise on BVI law and ownership structures.
