United States: Sheppard Appointed to International Advisory Committee for Dispute Resolution

(Houston, TX) Ben Sheppard, a partner in the Houston office of the international law firm of Vinson & Elkins L.L.P. has been appointed by the International Centre for Dispute Resolution, a division of the American Arbitration Association, to serve a two year term on the Centre’s International Advisory Committee.

The newly-formed Advisory Committee is comprised of leading international lawyers and arbitrators from the United States and several other nations, including Brazil, Canada, China, England, and Mexico. The Committee will advise the Centre on issues of international commercial arbitration, mediation and other alternative dispute resolution processes, including recommended revisions to the rules of mediation and arbitration.

"The formation of the International Advisory Committee reflects the Centre’s continued commitment to excellence in the delivery of conflict resolution services around the globe."

Sheppard is Co-Chair of Vinson & Elkins’ worldwide International Litigation and Arbitration Practice Group. He has been engaged in lawsuits and arbitrations involving disputes in many parts of the world, including China, Central Asia, Europe, the Middle East and South America.

Sheppard is editor-in-chief of the The International Arbitration News and adjunct professor of Law at the University of Houston Law Center. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the London Court of International Arbitration. He also serves as vice-chair of the International Commercial Dispute Resolution Committee of the American Bar Association Section of International Law and Practice.

The International Centre for Dispute Resolution is the world’s largest international commercial arbitral institution. In 2001, the Centre administered 649 cases, with filings in claims and counterclaims of more than $10 billion.
