Norton Rose Fulbright has advised Toyota Tsusho Corporation (TTC) of Japan on the acquisition of a significant strategic share in Scholz AG, which is headquartered in Germany.

Scholz AG is one of the largest German family owned businesses and one of the largest recycling companies of secondary raw materials (scrap steel and scrap metal) worldwide. The company, which is a key supplier for the global steel and metal industry, generated an annual turnover of €3.75 billion in 2013. Scholz AG employs 7,500 people at 500 locations around the globe.

The team in Germany was led by Alex von Bergwelt with assistance from Florian Breitreiner, Matthias Nordmann, Philipp Günther, Leonie Arendt, Stephanie Schuster, Markus Schmid, Raphael Suh, Julia Schomaker, Michael Heim, Daniela Loy, Oliver Sutter and Nadine Bourgeois. Michael Joyce in Sydney led the due diligence during the first phase of the transaction (before it was reorganised into a transaction based in Germany) and also coordinated the client relationship with the assistance of Steven Moe, Ben Smits, Ashleigh Standen and Olivia Allan as well as Daryl Lim, who is currently on secondment at TTC.

In addition, other Norton Rose Fulbright offices involved in the deal included New York (Steve Suzzan, Dan Wellington, Neil Sparber, Donald Ainscow, William Stelwagon and Jarret Stephens), Hong Kong (Marc Waha, Jon Perry, Marina Sherer, and Nicholas Wilson) and Singapore (Vanessa Chew and Philippa Noakes), as well as local counsel in New Zealand, Denmark, Austria, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia-Montenegro, Romania, Mexico, Sweden, and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
