There is a renewed focus amongst public and private sector organisations on legal risk management. Boards and senior executives require greater assurance that their organisation's governance, risk and compliance (GRC) systems are proactively identifying and managing actual and potential legal exposures.

Corporate counsel are increasingly expected to take a proactive approach to managing their organisation's legal risks and provide tangible value to its strategic goals and objectives. Developing and implementing an organisational legal risk management program is a key way in which corporate counsel can shift their role from being largely reactive to proactive.

This workshop explores the evolving role of corporate counsel and how they can increase their value-add to their organisation through strategic legal risk management. We'll also discuss the development of a structured legal risk management program for organisations, and the opportunities available to corporate counsel to align their legal risk management role to organisational strategic and business objectives.

What we'll cover

  • The emerging role of corporate counsel
  • Defining and maintaining legal risk appetite
  • What is legal risk?
  • How do you manage legal risks?
  • Establishing a legal risk management program
  • Benefits
  • Linkage to GRC
  • Tips for successful implementation
  • Tips on effective engagement with Boards and the C-suite on legal risk.

What you'll learn

  • A clear understanding of the evolving role of corporate counsel and what needs to be done to establish or update an organisation's legal risk management program
  • Sample templates of relevant documents and approaches for you to consider
  • A tool kit of tricks and traps for implementation or upgrading existing legal compliance systems.
