Hello and welcome to this month's edition of Investment insights.

This month we have decided to depart from our regular theme of highlighting a few internet articles and focus instead on a recent series of posts and articles written by our Wealth Management Director Daniel Minihan. Daniel's website, The Hyperion Effect, was recently updated and relaunched so we thought it appropriate to emphasize Daniel's commentary on some interesting articles. We also encourage you to click on the links in the site to follow us on Twitter or Facebook (or both!).

Over the past fortnight, with the Winter Olympics in full swing, two articles have looked at the games from a different angle. In Olympic Sponsorship – More than just the dollars, Daniel looked at the lengths Olympic sponsors go to when capitalising on and protecting the investment they have made. The second, and most recent post, looks at Olympic medals from an economic perspective with some interesting insights into the link between developing economies and their medal haul.

Two other recent posts that may be of interest include one from early February which looks at the long term returns of active managers against their indexes, including the often forgotten factor of survivorship which increases the difficulty of picking the right manager. Rounding up the articles this month is a piece looking at the disconnect between what you read in the news and what is actually going on in the market. Titled Wait, What? – S&P Nears Record High, the article looks at the fact that U.S. markets are again at record highs but that media representation continues to focus on the negatives.
