Last Updated: February 5 2014

We are delighted to announce that Melissa Kennedy has joined the firm as Labour Relations Specialist in the Labour & Employment Group in Toronto. The newly created role — the first of its kind for our firm — is part of our commitment to providing clients with the highest quality strategic legal services, most efficiently through a unique set of solutions called MTOptimize.

MTOptimize is a new service delivery model that uses a rigorous approach to find the most cost- and time-efficient arrangements for the firm to work with its clients through a step-by-step evaluation process.

Ms. Kennedy will assist the Labour & Employment Group in preparing for collective bargaining, labour arbitrations, workplace investigations, and human resources training and policies. Through an interdisciplinary and integrated approach, the role will allow the group to advise and assist clients with strategic human resource projects more efficiently.

"We are very excited to welcome Melissa to the firm and expand our labour and employment service offerings," said Jacques Rousse, National Labour & Employment Practice Group Leader. "We continue to look for every opportunity to deliver more value with better services and cost predictability. We're thrilled to be among the first in the industry to take this innovative approach."

Melissa Kennedy, a strategic human resources professional, has a strong knowledge of employment legislation, HR management software and employee relations in union and non-union environments. Ms. Kennedy has a CHRP designation and is currently completing her Masters of Industrial Relations (MIR).

McCarthy Tétrault's national Labour & Employment Group is a dynamic and experienced group working with both federal and provincial employers in the public and private sectors. The group's experience across Canada is as broad as the issues facing today's employers — encompassing traditional union/management relationships, human rights, wrongful dismissal, employment standards, corporate restructuring and executive compensation. The group also advises on issues such as privacy, novel work arrangements and managing technology in the workplace. Its practitioners regularly appear before courts and administrative tribunals across Canada on matters such as wrongful or unjust dismissal complaints, and represent employer interests before labour relations boards and human rights tribunals.
