New Zealand: An invitation from the NZ Institute of Patent Attorneys
Last Updated: 8 August 2013

Hear Doug Hill of Springfree Trampolines talking about how the protection of intellectual property has enabled his company to hold a competitive advantage in the marketplace.

Doug Hill is a director of Springfree New Zealand Limited, which holds the licence to sell SPRINGFREE trampolines in Australasia, Eastern Europe, South East Asia and the Middle East.

The SPRINGFREE trampoline was designed by Dr Keith Alexander at the University of Canterbury. After more than 15 years of injury prevention research, the design was commercialised in 2003 and is now sold in 15 countries.

Doug's company handles manufacturing through its Christchurch base and factory in China, and is contracted to conduct R&D. Doug managed Springfree's engineering development phase and had prior manufacturing experience in China.

Doug will talk about the development and management of the company's IP here in NZ and in their key markets around the world, and how that has given the business a key competitive advantage in the marketplace.
