UK: DataCash Powers Secure Transactions for New Virgin Megastore Site
Last Updated: 7 August 2002

As part of the Virgin Megastore's multi-channel retail strategy, virgin.com/megsatores/uk was launched as a transactional website on 21st June 2002. Virgin has selected leading UK Payment Service Provider, DataCash, to provide the secure processing of its credit and debit card transactions.

The Virgin Megastore site features product offers and specific entertainment content to consumers. Webcasting of PA events in-store will be additional, whilst selling CD's, DVD's, Videos and Games.

Virgin Megastores UK now has stores, websites and in-store kiosks and is looking to expand into other sales channels in the future. The site has been built by Uovo, a DataCash reseller partner since 1997. Together DataCash and Uovo already combine to provide the solutions behind other Virgin sales channels such as in-store Kiosk terminals. DataCash's payment solutions are designed to be able to process transactions from any front-end device including interactive digital TV and mobile commerce.

The website offers fans of entertainment, the opportunity to buy all the latest DVD and video releases, the latest music CD's and the latest titles for X-Box, Gameboy Advance, GameCube, PS1 & 2 from the site. Orders are usually despatched through EUK Direct within 24-48 hours, meaning you won't be waiting for months to get that CD, and the site will contain competitive and exclusive price structures, different to those in-store and online elsewhere. Virgin Megastores Online will also offer a gift-wrapping and a new release pre-order service.

Secure, reliable payment processing is essential to the success of the customer experience. DataCash's World Class outsourcing payment processing solutions provide 24x7 uptime, ensuring Virgin's customers can purchase from the store whatever the time of day or night and experience the same speedy, secure checkout transaction processing. Using DataCash's extensive real-time back-office management reporting features, Virgin Megastores is also able to centralise and monitor key sales performance data such as sales per terminal and transaction velocity. The back office also enables Virgin to manage full and partial transaction refunds and cancellations across both the Megastore site and its kiosks.

Virgin Megastores Head of Business Development, Ian Heath commented: "We're very pleased to be working with DataCash to process our card payments. Through the innovative work we have already done together with in-store kiosks we were happy to extend our relationship to the online store. Now we have the infrastructure in place we are looking forward to expanding our offering to our customers."

DataCash Product Development Director, Gavin Breeze commented: "Winning of the Virgin Megastore business is exciting for two reasons: firstly it is testimony to the great relationship we have had with Uovo, one of our oldest reseller partners. Since 1997 Uovo and DataCash have provided some highly innovative solutions into the online retail market. Secondly, winning the Megastores website business is an extension of the contract we already have to provide the processing for Virgin Megastores in-store kiosks. As such it is an acknowledgement of DataCash's value to Virgin as their outsourcing payment partner.

Uovo Chairman, Justin Lord commented: "We are proud to have been integrating solutions with DataCash systems since 1997, and have no hesitation in recommending their services to our clients. It's a strong partnership that works - if our clients are happy with the DataCash integration, as they invariably are, then we're happy. But the additional benefit of working with DataCash is that they are at the forefront of the payment processing market, and continue to bring innovations that we can introduce to our clients."
