UK: Ark Group Excels in Tough Times With DataCash
Last Updated: 7 August 2002

Industries such as publishing and events management have suffered in the current economic climate. Ark Group, Global business publisher and event organiser, is fighting tough times by offering online payment facilities, which have helped to reduce admin costs by over 50%. Ark Group has announced that it has implemented DataCash's payment solution to handle magazine and event transactions online, decreasing the need for paper invoices, debt chasing, paper filing and other admin. Ark Group produces 7 business magazines, 110 conferences and 6 exhibitions throughout Europe, Asia, Australia and the US.

Nick Hussey, managing director of Ark Group comments, "We receive payments in a number of currencies and it was essential to select a payment gateway that could handle these currencies whilst keeping control of admin and reducing costs".

DataCash enables companies to trade in more than 124 currencies and settle in 13. Unlike other payment providers, it uses a flat-fee pricing model, so regardless of the purchasing value, a charge of only 10p is made per transaction. Most payment solutions charge an average of 6% of the transaction value.

"I believe using DataCash's payment facilities has helped us remain successful in a difficult marketplace. Without DataCash we would not be able to offer reasonable subscription and event prices or be able to do so on a world-wide basis and in an integrated way. Large exhibitions, such as our KM Europe event can incur high admin costs and the online payment facility is vital when dealing with such a large global audience. DataCash addressed all our initial concerns about offering online capabilities. I am amazed at how quickly we have seen results and that the transaction process happens with minimal input from us." Says Nick Hussey

Richard Speigal, IT director at Ark, was responsible for implementing the system and he feels one of the key factors was the ease of integration "We have added online payment functionality to all our web sites and to the payment systems on the back office intranet. Implementation was very straight-forward and took substantially less time and effort than any of us had anticipated."

"For Ark Group security was also a major concern. It had to be comfortable that its customers were being protected as much as possible. Our payment gateway ensures that the back office elements of the service are completely automated, eliminating the need for human intervention. For security reasons the web host does not hold onto credit card details after it has sent the information to our server. Ark Group's website receives a number of visitors which increases as a show approaches. It's difficult to measure the number of transactions at any time, so a flat-fee pricing model is the fairest for its type of business." Comments Gavin Breeze, founder of DataCash.
