Australia: Sparke Helmore adds to its Perth Insurance team
Last Updated: 14 July 2013

Sparke Helmore is delighted to welcome Roger Sands, who has joined the Insurance Group this week as a partner in the Perth office.

"Roger is a very senior and highly respected insurance practitioner in the Western Australian market and we are thrilled that he has now decided to join Sparke Helmore. We have a vision to be a world-class Australian law firm most admired by our clients for our people and performance and expanding our team with people of the calibre of Roger is part of that vision," said Jesse Webb, Sparke Helmore's National Managing Partner.

Roger has represented insurers and employers in the areas of statutory classes of insurance and liability for more than 25 years. He has extensive claims experience, especially in the area of CTP, and has successfully defended liability and statutory class actions across a range of industries. Roger also advises on general insurance issues in the areas of transport and haulage.

He is an experienced counsel in all civil jurisdictions in Western Australia, including the District and Supreme Courts of Western Australia, the Western Australia Court of Appeal, Magistrates Court and the Conciliation and Review Directorate of WorkCover. Roger is also a member of the Board of the Australian Insurance Law Association.

Roger joined Talbot Olivier in 2002. In 2007, Talbot Olivier joined the Integrated Legal Holdings Group. Before that, Roger was the founding partner of Marks & Sands for 25 years.

Rhett Slocombe, who leads Sparke Helmore's National Insurance Practice Group, said: "With Roger and his team joining our Perth office, we have further strengthened our very strong Insurance team in the west."

Roger's appointment follows Joel Sheldrick's recent promotion to partner (Insurance Group, Perth) and the appointment of Yvette McLaughlin as a partner in the Insurance Group in the firm's Brisbane office.
