Last Updated: 11 July 2002

Organised annually in partnership with Real Business magazine, the Awards are now in their fourth year and have become a spotlight for recognising entrepreneurial talent in the UK. Such was the interest in last year's Awards that Microsoft's Bill Gates joined the line-up of VIPs as a guest speaker at the ceremony, which is due to take place this year on Thursday 5th December at The London Hilton on Park Lane.

There are eight different categories for individuals and companies to choose from but, unlike many other business award schemes, there is no fee for entering. Shortlisted companies will automatically qualify for a package of benefits including: a year's free membership of the CBI, entry to the exclusive Real Business Entrepreneurs' Network, plus all the publicity surrounding the Awards programme.

Digby Jones, Director General of the CBI and Chairman of the Judges, commented: "Growing a business, particularly in today's uncertain climate, is an achievement in itself. These Awards praise those that are doing it with the flair and commitment to make it to the top of their industry."

The closing date for entries is September 20th. Details of how to enter can be found at

Sponsors of the 2002 Growing Business Awards include: Grant Thornton, Allied Irish Bank, Lloyds TSB Development Capital and the Royal Bank of Scotland.
