Last Updated: 3 April 2013

Sydney, 2 April 2013: The appointment of Clayton Utz Workplace Relations partner Joe Catanzariti as a Vice President of the Fair Work Commission reflects his longstanding reputation as one of the country's foremost industrial relations lawyers.

Joe was named last Thursday as one of six new members of the Fair Work Commission, Australia's national workplace relations tribunal.

Congratulating Joe on his appointment, Clayton Utz chief executive partner Darryl McDonough said: "When Joe joined Clayton Utz in 1988, he quickly established a reputation for excellence and a genuine passion for industrial relations law and policy, which garnered him a loyal client base and the respect of his peers. Joe's appointment to the Fair Work Commission is a great honour for him and he will make an important and significant contribution."

Joe headed the national Workplace Relations and Safety practice at Clayton Utz for several years, and has served as national human resources partner as well as a member of the firm's Diversity Council. He has mentored many younger lawyers who have gone on to successful legal careers.

In 2011, the Industrial Relations Society of Australia / Australian Labour and Employment Relations Association honoured Joe with a Life Time Recognition award.

Joe is the current President of the Law Council of Australia, and served as President of the Law Society of NSW in 2009, having chaired a number of the Law Society's committees over the years. Joe is also a past President of the Industrial Relations Society of New South Wales, and Chair of the College of Law. His board positions include the Tristan Jepson Foundation (2009) and the Public Purpose Fund (2009 and 2010).
