Canada: Pejman Mahlooji's Leadership At Crowe Mackay
Last Updated: August 9 2019

What differentiates Crowe MacKay in the accounting industry? Ask our clients and they say it's our team of professionals and partners exceeding their expectations and building their success. Ask our people, and they say it's because we care about our employees and clients, invest in our local communities,  and value a culture where individuals can build their careers.

We are always looking to build our firm with teammates who emulate our values. One of our most recent additions to our Partnership is Pejman Mahlooji — Pej. Pej joined the Crowe MacKay Vancouver office in the fall of 2018 as one of the leaders in our public company audit and advisory practice. On his first day, Pej travelled to Miami to meet colleagues within the Crowe Global network, and since then has been working closely with other Crowe offices and clients in Africa, Europe, and South America, on various audit and advisory engagements; this was all just foreshadowing his role in our global business development. Pej has just recently returned from a trip to Chile, visiting our local Crowe office in Santiago, and meeting with mining executives while touring one of our client's mining operations.

Where does Pej's expertise lie? One look at his portfolio and you will see his extensive experience with large global Public Companies (Pubco). With a diverse knowledge of many industries including mining,  technology, and manufacturing, he works with complex public companies with offices and operations around the world.

No day is the same in Pubco. With the opportunity to learn all aspects of accounting and various industries, Pej finds himself interacting directly with controllers, CFOs, and CEOs of multi-million dollar companies. His proactive approach in decision making contributes to his clients success, and is what distinguishes Crowe MacKay as a firm in the industry:

"The public markets are going through a fundamental change whereby an organization like ours is expected to do more than just assist with regulatory audit or tax compliance – a higher degree of collaboration, value-added services, and industry-specific insight is expected."

So why join Crowe MacKay? Pej was attracted to the firm for two reasons: People and Culture.

Crowe MacKay has deeply rooted itself in the communities we live in, with client relationships being a top priority. With this at the heart of our firm, Pej believes it allows us to be "truly regarded as a trusted advisor to our clients." In joining the Crowe Global network, he says:

"Our relationships, approach to providing top-notch client service, and diverse client base come together to position us as a leader in our growth trajectory. Our firm is very proud of its heritage and what got it to where it is today. While maintaining our deep local market presence, and remaining true to who we are as a firm, and the role we play in the local community, we have been able to position ourselves as a key player in the global markets by joining Crowe Global, and not only gaining market share in global markets, but also being part of the eighth largest professional service firm in the world."

Pej views the firm's membership in the Crowe Global Network as invaluable. Put simply, "our clients operate globally and so do we." Being a member of the Crowe Global Network allows Pej and his colleagues to "work with talented professionals with global skills effectively cross borders and cultures which is expected from a firm like ours with our client base." Pej shares how his network has grown to include key contacts with partners and teams at Crowe offices around the world, ultimately generating new work for the firm. These relationships translate to developing global business skills and gaining access to global resources with country-specific knowledge and expertise, allowing network members to provide a seamless client service experience as a global firm.

Pej is also an active member on Crowe Global's Audit Process Committee, as well as the Global Growth Committee. On the Audit Process Committee, Pej is immersed in audit quality, which is at the center of his expertise, striving for improvement and innovation across the network. He oversees and updates methodologies and technology applications within the Crowe Global Audit practice. Additionally, Pej works with other global Committee members to oversee the short and long term vision of the audit process.  As a Global Audit Process Committee member, Pej is on the pulse with the latest exposure drafts that impact our firm as well as our clients. With the information he accumulates, he shares his comments with international accounting bodies. One of the biggest benefits for our clients is that Pej is exposing relevant information to our global clients, enhancing our expertise.

As a member of the Global Growth Committee, Pej collaborates with other Crowe offices around the world to ensure clients are being served with the relevant industry specific expertise and assists with the implementation of business development and growth initiatives.

Based on his strengths, experiences, and global network, Pej says he sees himself "well-positioned to add value as the firm continues to grow its client portfolio, while focusing on internal culture, employee satisfaction, and attracting top talent." He notes how the strength of Crowe MacKay's culture has led to higher client satisfaction, increasing our value in being trusted advisers. Pej says he is surrounded by a group of fantastic people who've helped him navigate servicing his clients.
