Cayman Islands: Carne Expands Leading Global Fund Governance Team With 20th Director

Julie O'Hara brings legal expertise to panel of independent fund directors

CAYMAN ISLANDS January 2013: Carne Group today announces that Julie O'Hara is the latest independent fund director to join its Cayman Islands office. She is the fourth Carne director now resident in the Cayman Islands and available for fund boards. Her appointment brings the total number of the firm's fund directors to twenty.

Said John Donohoe, Chief Executive of Carne: "Carne's expansion to twenty full time fund directors globally is the result of the increasing demand for our formula of low numbers of directorships per individual, coupled with a high degree of attention to our clients and their funds. This is what investors and regulators are asking for, and we will continue to work hard to help the fund industry meet these demands."

Julie joins Carne from law firm Ogier in the Cayman Islands, where she was a Managing Associate in the Business and Trust law group, specialising in hedge funds, private equity funds, Shariah-compliant funds and real estate funds. She has extensive experience in corporate and commercial law, offshore investment funds, fund listings and fund restructuring.

Peter Heaps, Managing Director of Carne in the Cayman Islands, added: "Julie is ideal for this role, as she brings her considerable experience of Cayman Islands law and regulation to fund boards. As the regulatory environment in the US begins to place increasing emphasis on fund governance, directors like Julie are in high demand. The track records and skill sets of our directors have helped to reinforce our firm's standing in the wider fund management industry, as we continue to help the industry to meet best practices."

Julie O'Hara commented: "It is a very exciting time to be joining Carne, as the firm grows to meet the requirements of its blue chip client base. The increasingly institutional nature of the hedge funds industry means that independent fund directors and fund boards must measure up to much higher standards of governance. I and my colleagues at Carne will be working to assist the industry in meeting those standards."

Julie is a member of the Cayman Islands Bar Association and the Cayman Islands Law Society. She graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of Liverpool and qualified as an attorney-at-law in the Cayman Islands in 2001.

Carne now works with twelve out of the fifteen largest asset management groups in the world and many of the leading hedge funds. Carne's focus on hiring directors with strong track records in the funds business, combined with its emphasis on limiting the number of commercial relationships each director maintains, has helped to reinforce its credentials as the premier firm of fund directors.
