Last Updated: 3 October 2012

Middletons has appointed Steven Wulff as a special counsel within the Melbourne intellectual property team.

In announcing the appointment, Middletons national managing partner, Nick Nichola said, "Steven is a specialist when it comes to patent preparation and prosecution. We continue to see increasing client demand in what is a growing area of law in Australia and internationally."

Steven works across a wide range of technology areas including software, information and communications, medical, mechanical and electrical-related technologies. He has extensive experience in representing international and domestic clients who have both Australian and foreign patent portfolios.

In joining the Middletons pack, Steven said, "Middletons is an obvious place for me to be as a market leader in intellectual property legal services. I was particularly attracted to the high calibre of clients and the ability to work on complex patent cases."

Steven added, "Middletons works to secure, manage and defend intellectual property rights in the most cost effective and timely manner because they truly understand that these are often the most valuable assets of businesses in today's economy."

Before qualifying as a lawyer and patent attorney Steven trained as a military pilot and worked as a physicist in communications research. In addition to his technical and legal experience, Steven has business experience in developing and patenting new technologies in companies both large and small. He was seconded as an in-house patent attorney at a global mining company and was CEO of a sports technology start-up.

Before focusing his practice on patent drafting and prosecution, Steven concentrated on complex life science and chemical patent litigation and transactions. He advised clients of multinational pharmaceutical, biotechnology, energy and industrial chemical companies in both Australian and Europe.
