New Zealand: Long shot pays off for shooter
Last Updated: 12 July 2012

Chapman Tripp was pleased to be able to help shooter Ryan Taylor to realise his Olympic ambitions in what is believed to be the first successful appeal of a New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC) selection decision in a century.

Daniel Kalderimis and Jeremy Upson from Chapman Tripp's litigation team represented Mr Taylor in the legal challenge.

The process involved persuading the NZOC to reconsider its selection decision, winning an appeal heard by the Sports Tribunal on 5 July and the next morning resolving High Court proceedings upon undertakings from the NZOC and the New Zealand Shooting Federation to immediately give effect to Mr Taylor's selection.

The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), the Munich body charged with allocating quota for Olympic shooting events, agreed to make the "extraordinary" decision to reallocate the quota to Ryan Taylor's event late on 6 July NZ time.

"We wish Ryan all the best at the London Games. He has had to fight harder than most to get there."
