Last Updated: 3 May 2002

International law firm Clyde & Co appointed five new partners from within the firm with effect from 1 May 2002. This brings the total number of partners at Clyde & Co to 114.

Andrew Bicknell joined Clyde & Co in 1988 and specialises in shipping and marine insurance work, which includes the recent "GRECIA EXPRESS" war risks case. Andrew acts for cargo and ship interests, as well as underwriters, traders and bunker suppliers. A founding member of the firm’s Singapore office, he returned to London in 1996.

Alex McIntosh specialises in shipping and international trade disputes. His clients include shipowners, traders, charterers, P & I Clubs and insurers. He has fifteen years’ experience, and worked for Clyde & Co’s Hong Kong office for three and a half years. Alex often speaks at external engagements on charterparties and contracts law.

Based in Hong Kong, Michael Kelly is a commercial and marine litigator. He acts for shipowners, charterers, insurers, traders and cargo interests on a wide range of shipping, insurance and international trade related matters. This appointment reflects the success of one of Clyde & Co’s largest overseas offices, and the firm’s commitment to its future growth.

Adam Taylor-Smith joined Clyde & Co in 1999. He specialises in commercial real estate transactions and acts for developers, investors, occupiers and finance providers. Although covering the full range of commercial property work, he has particular experience in acting on large-scale transactions and the property aspects of IPOs, restructurings, mergers and acquisitions.

Derek Reid has ten years’ experience in his specialist area of insurance and reinsurance. He handles a broad range of contentious work, both litigation and arbitration, from conditional fee recovery cases to complex multi-party disputes. Derek has particular expertise in credit insurance and product liability, and also in issues affecting the reinsurance run-off market where his non-contentious practice includes advising on schemes of arrangement, portfolio transfers and commutations.
