Australia: Thinking Differently About Reconciliation
Last Updated: 24 March 2012

DLA Piper Australia's Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) features 14 key actions which we aspire to achieve to build relationships and opportunities with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and organisations. We believe these actions demonstrate how we, as a major law firm, can truly make a difference working alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to achieve Reconciliation in Australia.

When we began our RAP journey, we wanted to define the unique elements of our plan and make those the focal point, while understanding that all actions that are crucial for a successful RAP must be realised in tandem with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Alongside the key components of our RAP outlined here, we are committed to:

  • Building and nurturing relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, communities, individuals, Elders and Traditional Owners of the Land to explore avenues for mutually beneficial opportunities.
  • Enabling leadership and direction of our RAP across the firm through our Steering Group and working group.
  • Developing internal engagement campaigns to communicate and focus attention on our RAP objectives and what our staff can do to embark on their own cultural awareness journey.
  • Implementing respectful protocols for Acknowledgement of Traditional Owners of the Land and Welcome to Country as part of our commitment to ongoing cultural awareness.
