Isle of Man: Two Bursaries Awarded By Appleby Isle Of Man
Leading offshore law firm Appleby has awarded two bursaries as
part of its newly introduced Isle of Man Bursary Scheme.
Launched in April 2018, the Appleby Bursary Scheme is the
island's first and only scheme, which supports students
interested in pursuing a career in law. The scheme offers two
bursaries annually, with financial assistance either for
undergraduates entering the final year of their law degree and then
continuing towards the Legal Practice Course (LPC), or for non-law
graduates studying the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) and then the
LPC.
Ruby Roberts and Katie Entwisle are the recipients of the 2018
bursaries, each receiving a two-year financial commitment from
Appleby.
Former Queen Elizabeth II High School student Ruby Roberts, 21,
graduated from her three-year Law LLB (Hons) degree at the
University of Liverpool in July 2018. This month she will commence
the LPC with the University of Law in Liverpool.
Ruby said: "I am absolutely delighted to have been awarded
this bursary by Appleby and to be taking the next step in my career
studying towards the Legal Practice Course. It's fantastic to
see a law firm invest in local talent; I'm excited to get back
to Liverpool now and to commence my course. This is an incredible
opportunity and I am extremely grateful."
25-year-old Katie Entwisle, former Ballakermeen High School
student, graduated from Newcastle University with a degree in
Linguistics with French. After working on-island for a number of
years, she is returning to her studies in September, commencing the
GDL at the University of Law in Manchester, a 12-month course
designed to provide a diploma equivalent to a law degree. She will
then complete the LPC.
Katie said: "To be awarded a bursary by the island's
largest law firm is an incredible feeling. The scheme is a great
initiative; it has given me the confidence I needed to pursue a
career in law and I can't wait to get my head down and make the
most of this opportunity. It's going to be a busy few years,
but I'm motivated for the challenge."
Both candidates will be considered for a training contract with
Appleby at the end of their studies.
Managing Partner of Appleby Isle of Man, Faye Moffett, added:
"We are passionate about investing in and developing local
talent on the Isle of Man. I couldn't be more pleased to
welcome Ruby and Katie to the wider Appleby family. I wish them
both the best of luck in their studies and have every confidence in
their future success."
Applications for the 2019 Isle of Man Appleby Bursary Scheme
will open in the coming months.
