Austria: Eight New Partners Strengthen The Schoenherr Team

Walter Gapp (38), Christoph Haid (30), Denise R. Hamer, Hans Georg Laimer (36), Roman Perner (33), Bernd Rajal (34), Manuel Schalk (37) and Michael Walbert (34), eight members of the renowned Central European law firm Schoenherr, announce an important career step. Effective immediately, they will support the firm with their expertise from their new position as partner.

Portraits of the new partners:

Walter Gapp (38) is a team leader in the area of Banking & Finance and is responsible for financial market regulation. In that capacity, he regularly supports Austrian banks and international investment banks in implementing new legal developments (CRD III, CRDIV/Basel III). He also advises on the structuring and issuance of capital instruments, securitisation and other balance sheet structuring measures for banks and insurance undertakings.

Christoph Haid (30) has been a member of Schoenherr's EU & Competition Team since 2004. Since joining Schoenherr, he has represented many clients in complex merger control proceedings and cartel proceedings, and has advised on competition law issues under both national and EU competition law. His main focus is competition law in Central and Eastern Europe. Recently he was involved in advising clients in the implementation of comprehensive competition law compliance programmes.

Denise R. Hamer joined Schoenherr in February 2012 as a partner. Admitted to the New York State bar and with an emphasis in the areas of finance and restructuring, she brings more than 20 years' of legal and commercial experience in Central and Eastern Europe. In the course of her career, she has served in senior positions with leading international law firms, consultancies, corporates and banks, including White & Case, Arthur Andersen, Societe Generale and Citigroup. Most recently, she was senior counsel to BAWAG P.S.K., a portfolio company of US private equity fund Cerberus Capital Management, where she supported senior management and led several major financial restructurings in Central and Eastern Europe.

Hans Georg Laimer (36) heads Schoenherr's Employment Group from February 2012. Hans has been with Schoenherr since 2005 and advises employers on all aspects of employment law, such as transfers of undertakings,

management contracts, dismissal and grievance procedures, redundancies and negotiations with works councils. He also represents employers in Employment Tribunal cases.

Roman Perner (33) has been with the Corporate/M&A Practice Group since 2003. He represents domestic and foreign industrial undertakings and banks in national and cross-border reorganisations and M&A transactions.

Bernd Rajal (34) has been a member of Schoenherr's Public Law Team since 2006. His main areas of activity include regulatory law, European and Austrian environmental and industrial plant law, energy law, environmental remediation law and the areas of environmental impact assessment (EIA) approval law and EIA proceedings management. Since he began his career, he has led various plant approval proceedings and advised clients in M&A transactions with regard to regulatory / environmental law aspects.

Manuel Schalk (37) specialises in insurance contract and insurance supervisory law. The attorney represents domestic and foreign insurers in court proceedings and before public authorities. He also advises various insurers on life and non-life product design, cross border distribution, establishing branch offices and all related tax and legal supervisory questions.

Michael Walbert (34) specialises in representing domestic and foreign clients in distressed M&A and other distressed transactions, as well as corporate recovery and restructuring. Further practice areas of Michael Walbert include litigation, in particular in relation to corporate law- and capital market-related disputes.
