Sydney, 12 December 2011: Clayton Utz has been awarded a Children's Cancer Institute Australia (CCIA) Benefactor Award in recognition of the firm's support for the charity over 20 years.

The Governor of NSW, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, presented the Award to Clayton Utz at a ceremony held at Government House on 24 November. CCIA's Benefactor Awards acknowledge organisations and individuals that have shown inspirational support for CCIA, through the giving of their time and knowledge, and through financial and other assistance.

Clayton Utz Sydney Corporate partner Simon Truskett said the firm was proud of its longstanding relationship with the CCIA. "CCIA's vision is to save the lives of all children with cancer and eliminate their suffering. Through CCIA's medical research programs, public education and awareness initiatives, and the support they provide to children suffering from cancer, and their families, CCIA is making an important contribution. We are proud to have been associated with CCIA for the past 20 years."

CCIA has been a pro bono client of the firm since 1991. Clayton Utz has provided over 5,300 hours of pro bono legal advice and representation to CCIA on 170 different matters, to the value of more than $1.9 million.

The Clayton Utz Foundation has also made more than $500,000 in grants to support CCIA's Molecular Carcinogenesis Research Program. CCIA was most recently the recipient of a three-year Clayton Utz Foundation grant which will employ a post-doctoral researcher to continue research into the mechanisms of cancer genesis.
