Australia: Middletons' sponsorship of ACLA National Conference enters its fifth year
Last Updated: 21 November 2011

Middletons will sponsor the 17th ACLA Annual National Conference to be held in Melbourne on 24 and 25 November. This is the fifth consecutive year Middletons has supported the conference as Official Platinum Sponsor.

The theme for the 2011 conference is "In-house, in vogue", exploring the changing landscape of the legal profession in Australia and how all sectors of the profession and those supplying to it are adapting to the "new vogue".

Commenting on the conference, Middletons national managing partner Nick Nichola said, "We are seeing unprecedented change and reform in the market which creates both uncertainty and opportunity for our clients. With a booming mining and resources sector, the introduction of a carbon tax, an emissions trading scheme not far off and industrial relations and tax reform back on the agenda (just to name a few) we know now, more than ever, our clients are relying on legal knowledge and expertise to deal with these regulatory changes.

"We recognise the critical role in-house counsel play in this respect and our focus is on working closely to assist them in achieving their business goals."

Featuring on this year's agenda, Middletons partner Murray Deakin will present a session on the changing role of in-house counsel in light of the James Hardie trial in which he was involved while fellow partner Dudley Kneller will facilitate a discussion on "technology in 2011", focussing on cloud computing.

Trish Hyde, ACLA CEO said, "Middletons is a valued, long term partner with whom we have enjoyed working to deliver engaging conferences over the years. The expertise and experience of many of the firm's partners has enabled us to provide updates on hot legal topics that have been extremely well received at each of our conferences."
