Australia: Middletons celebrates 10 years of supporting women in business
Last Updated: 8 March 2011

Middletons continues to focus on supporting women in the firm and today celebrates 10 years since its Women's Information Network (WIN) was established.

With a focus on building networking skills among female staff and clients, WIN has grown significantly over the years and will this year be expanded into Middletons' relatively new Perth office.

"From a personal perspective it is fantastic to see initiatives like WIN continue to be well received by our staff and clients, especially as it is operated by the women in our firm to cater for the needs of women in the broader business community" said Middletons national managing partner Nick Nichola.

"Women make up 61% of our workforce so it makes sense that we should have a strategic focus to help more of our women advance into leadership roles. The results of that focus speak for themselves - in the last 2 consecutive years we have almost doubled the number of female partners in the firm. WIN, along with the other initiatives we have implemented, has played a significant role in that achievement and our strong desire to see more women progress at Middletons remains a core strategic focus for the firm” added Mr Nichola.

Each year WIN hosts a number of social and educational functions including recently partnering with Westpac Women's Markets to host the 'securing your financial future' seminars. Larke Riemer, National Head of Westpac's Women's Markets also recently appeared as a guest panellist at a WIN function themed 'what it takes to be a successful woman in business'.

Middletons chairman Erin Devery was at the event and said, "The panellists were extremely engaging and I enjoyed listening to their individual stories of success."

"I walked away feeling inspired and proud of WIN for continuing to bring together our clients and colleagues to network and discuss mutual challenges."

Tracey McDonald, Middletons human resources director said, "WIN caters to women at all stages in their career and provides a valuable forum for our women to build relationships and network."

WIN's 10 year celebration, ties in with activities Middletons is coordinating throughout March to recognise women and their valuable contribution to the firm’s success. Of note is the launch of the Middletons Women's Achievement Awards as well as career pathway forums, zumba classes, women's health seminars and lots more.
